Fried Cheese with Blueberry Jam

– Fried Cheese with Blueberry Jam –

I still remember the first time that I had fried cheese with blueberry jam, I was visiting the city of Alicante where some of my family lives, and they suggested we try this dish. After tasting it, my taste buds were in high heaven. First off, I am a huge fan of cheese, and second, when the word ¨fried¨ is said, I have a huge smile in my face. In this recipe I use the typical Spanish cheese that is used ¨Queso de Burgos¨, it is very similar to fresh mozzarella or ricotta cheese, so if you can´t find queso de burgos in your area, you can substitute it for those other cheeses. Watch the video below on how to easily make this incredibly tasty appetizer of fried cheese with blueberry jam, and enjoy the simplicity of great flavors in no time at all. Salud!

Ingredients

  • 1 8 oz Piece of Queso de Burgos
  • 1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 Cup Extra Virgin Spanish Olive Oil
  • 2 Tbsp Blueberry Jam
  • 1 Fresh Organic Egg
  • 1 Tsp Dried Parsley
  • Sea Salt

Instructions

  1. Start by cutting your cheese into triangles that are about 1/2 inch thick
  2. Using a large bowl, add 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp of sea salt, 1 tsp of dried parsley, and mix it all together
  3. Using a small bowl, crack the egg, add it to the bowl, and beat the egg
  4. Grab a medium sized non-stick frying pan, turn your burner on to a medium-high heat, and add 1/4 cup of extra virgin Spanish olive oil to the pan
  5. Grab the cheese triangles, and one by one, dip in the egg and then in the flour to get them well coated and add to a plate
  6. Once your oil gets hot, start adding the coated cheese triangles to the pan without over crowding the pan, cook in batches
  7. After about 1 minute of cooking turn the cheese triangles and cook the uncooked side
  8. After about another minute or so your cheese triangles should have a golden color on both sides
  9. Take the cheese triangles out of the pan and place on plate with a paper towel to drain the excess oil
  10. Transfer the cheese triangles to a new plate and place the blueberry jam in the middle of the plate for dipping
  11. Enjoy!
